Pendulum Sensitivity - March 23, 2002

The Pendulum Works! Pendulums have intentionally been designed in a whole spectrum of sensitivities. Think of it as you would about tools in your toolbox: the hammer is not "better" then the screwdriver... it's just different, with a different purpose and use. In the same way the most sensitive Pendulums are not "better", they're just for a different use.

Our highest sensitivity Pendulums are, generally speaking, those with Quartz at both ends (Handle and Bob). They may be found in our "Healer's Quartz" category. There are also many highly sensitive Pendulums in our "One of a Kind" and "Limited Edition" categories, yet these change daily so it's best to fax or call, if you're interested...

After the highest sensitivity there's a truly wide range of sensitivities. Next would be those Pendulums with any Quartz at one end (could be clear quartz, rose, amethyst, smoky or citrine). and then certain combinations of stones in Handle and Bob and intentionally designed for their effect on certain chakra combinations. Following all these stone Pendulums are the Metal and Stone Pendulums, then Wood and Metal, all Wood (uses cord instead of chain), all Metal, all Copper, and finally at the bottom or other end of the sensitivity chart we have the Metal & Glass or all Glass (Handle & Bob) Pendulums.

Now why would anyone want to use a Pendulum of medium or even very low sensitivity? Why not always use a "Quartz Healers" Pendulum? The answer is that when we're doing healing, counseling, regressions and so on, we want to maximize our "tuning in" to the energy fields of whatever or whoever we are working on/asking about. Yet at the other end, when we are primarily using the Pendulum as an indicator or pointer for simple Yes/No Answers or for Map Dowsing, we actually need and want a Dowsing Instrument that is NOT sensitive to everything around us:

  1. Our own subtle energies

  2. Other People's energies

  3. Animal/plant energies

  4. Earth energies/Weather changes

  5. Cosmic energies/Astrological Influences

  6. ... and more...

There is also the question of cost, with the less sensitive, more "dead" Pendulums (Glass, Metals) generally costing less and the more sensitive ones costing more.

How do you (or we) determine where exactly and precisely any one given Pendulum falls in the great Spectrum of Sensitivity? There are 2 answers: First, use it and feel it - an experienced Dowser can quickly tell how sensitive any Pendulum is. Second, Dowse It! Take the most sensitive Pendulum and arbitrarily call it a sensitivty of "100"... then ask "Compared to this "#100" what is the sensitivity of this 2nd one (or 3rd, or 4th, etc.)." You'll probably get a number like "93"... then you know that the first one is about 7% (100 - 93 = 7) more sensitive.

Of course, there's a whole other aspect to this question of Pendulum Sensitivity. And that is the fact that YOU ARE the PENDULUM! The instrument is just the pointer/the indicator in most cases. Therefore, it is your own clarity, intention, and good technique that's important, not whether you have a Pendulum of Bloodstone or Banded Agate! Added to this, however, are a number of healing, cleansing and energizing techniques where the Pendulum becomes a vital instrument and not just an indicator.
